Joe Sweeney, AIF®
Director of Business Solutions, Managing Partner
With decades of experience in financial markets and investment management, I’m proud to bring my expertise to Cornerstone Wealth. My career began in 1984 with Salomon Brothers in Institutional Equity Sales, where I spent 11 years honing my understanding of markets and investments. I then spent nearly 20 years founding and managing two long-biased hedge funds, developing a deep knowledge of portfolio management, risk assessment, and innovative financial strategies. In 2014, I joined Cornerstone Wealth and established our San Francisco office, expanding our reach to the West Coast.
As the leader of Cornerstone Business Solutions, I focus on empowering small and medium-sized business owners by providing tailored solutions for retirement plans, executive compensation, business transitions, and lending/financing strategies. In addition, I serve on Cornerstone's Investment Committee, helping to shape the firm’s approaches to robust and disciplined investment strategies.
Outside of work, I’m deeply committed to philanthropy and community service. As a member of the Board of Trustees at Dillard University in New Orleans, I serve on the finance, investment, and advancement committees, supporting education and equity. I’m also proud to sit on the advisory board of the Preservation Hall Foundation, furthering the preservation of jazz traditions. Over the years, I’ve served on the boards of organizations such as the San Francisco Jewish Community Center, Catholic Charities/CYO, the Salvation Army, and The Guardsmen of San Francisco, where I had the honor of serving as past president.
In my personal life, I divide my time between San Francisco and Napa, where I live with my talented daughters, Katherine and Alexandra. I find joy in hiking, playing pinball and bridge, exploring power pop and traditional jazz, reading contemporary fiction, and indulging in my love for Burgundy wines. Whether professionally or personally, I’m passionate about creating meaningful connections and making a lasting impact on the people and communities around me.
